Celadon Rose Tea Set

This is a Ru-style celadon tea set: a sky-blue (天青) glazed teapot with rose-relief cups, carved rather than painted.

Roses are modelled in low relief on the cups so the pale celadon glaze pools in the carving and draws the pattern out. The supplier’s photographs show more than one teapot profile in the same pack.

Care

These instructions are translated from the maker’s own care sheet. Before first use, rinse the inside of the piece with warm water to clear any kiln ash. Rinse it again soon after drinking rather than leaving tea standing in it.

Wash by hand, one piece at a time, and never stack pieces inside one another. Do not use a dishwasher, steel wool, or strongly acidic or alkaline cleaners; for stubborn tea staining the maker suggests a little toothpaste or a dedicated teaware cleaner. Use a tea towel and coasters, and store the pieces apart, padded with a soft cloth, rather than knocking together in a cupboard.

Which piece will I actually receive?

Two different teapot profiles appear in the supplier’s photographs for this set — a low round pot and a taller lidded pot. The figures on the specification image (a pot of about 360 ml, 14 cm long and 13.5 cm high, with cups of about 90 ml, 5.5 cm across and 4 cm high) belong to the taller pot and must not be read across to the low one. Message us before ordering and we will confirm which pot and how many cups you are getting.

How do I look after it?

No. The maker supplies this as teaware and provides brewing care instructions, but we have not been given a laboratory food-contact test report, so we are not going to claim one. If a certificate matters to you, ask us before ordering and we will request it from the kiln.
