How the quick-brew (kuaike) cup works

A kuaike cup is a pot and cup in one: the lower vessel holds the brewed tea and the lid or inner basket holds the leaves. Brew, strain, then pour into the small cups. After brewing, the cups stack on or inside the main vessel so the whole set packs into the case.

What is Ru glaze?

Ru glaze is a soft, satin glaze inspired by Song dynasty Ru ware, usually in pale sky-blue, celadon or cream tones. Fine crackle lines can appear in the glaze over time as tea seeps in, so the surface slowly changes with use. This is a normal feature of the glaze, not a defect.

Who it is for

This set serves one to three people. Pack it for the office, a hotel room, a road trip, a picnic or a campsite, or give it as a tea gift to someone who travels often. Bring your own loose leaf tea and hot water.

Care

Rinse every piece with warm water after use and let them dry completely before packing them into the case, so the case stays fresh. Avoid sudden hot-to-cold temperature changes, and hand wash to protect the decoration.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the glaze show crackle lines?

Ru-style glazes develop fine crackle as they are used with tea. Every piece develops its own pattern over time.

How many cups does one brew fill?

The largest vessel holds about 65 ml and each cup about 65 ml, so one brew fills roughly 1 cups. Gongfu-style tea is brewed in several short rounds, so the set easily serves one to three people.

Does the travel case protect the cups?

Yes. The pieces stack together and fit inside the padded case, which keeps them from knocking against each other in a bag or suitcase.
